The industry average annual underwriting loss on homeowners policy in the decade that ends in 2010, according to data compiled by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC).

The Obama administration: student plans must cover contraceptives

The Obama administration moved ahead Friday afternoon in applying rules of the controversial contraceptive, say a student health insurance plans should cover preventive services.

After a month of intense debate, the Administration finally laid down the rules in writing Friday and asked the public to comment on proposed rules for the next 90 days.  The rules would require health insurance plans to provide women with access to contraception with no cost-sharing. Will allow religious organizations to opt out, rather than requiring health insurers to provide direct funding for contraception. The same rules would apply to colleges and universities, religious institutions are exempt.

Citizens insurance continues to grow, and maybe that is a good thing

Call it Rick paradox: the more that gov. Scott and other national leaders talking about shrinks or eliminates the citizens property insurance, the greater the State-run insurance gets.

Two years ago, citizens have the policy a bit more than 1 million. When Scott took office last January, the citizens have a policy of 1.23 million. December 31, the number is a policy to 1,472,391.

And citizen projects will have a policy of 1.65 million at the end of the year, according to the fiscal 2012, more than the largest private insurance four combined.

In his budget released last month, residents said they were anticipating growth execs more because of the "limitations on the availability and affordability of coverage" in the private insurance market, "particularly in Southeast Florida and Tampa area.

Translation: while welcoming legislative business, loose guideline level and the sixth straight season firestorm with large storms that hit the country didn't exist, private insurance is still shedding Florida policy instead of flocking here. State Farm has 580,000 policy last January of 514,000 in September, according to the State.

Legal debate location spurs protests
